Reser’s is one of the first manufacturers to achieve certification from the Global Food Safety Institute (GFSI), the most stringent standard in the industry. Reser’s has been an industry leader in establishing detailed quality assurance programs. These programs are based on HACCP, which focuses on process control and prevention of hazards during production, rather than testing finished product after processing.
We track the complete supply chain, working with farmers on seed development to grow the right produce, and requiring our growers to adhere to recognized Good Agricultural Practices. We also monitor our suppliers, focusing on their food safety programs, with extensive vendor visits and a broader exchange of information. Reser’s is currently developing a program to require SQF certification from all of our ingredient and even packaging suppliers.
We use sophisticated wireless data loggers to monitor critical control points in our HACCP programs and processing parameters like cooking, cooling, and freeze times and temperatures. They’re also being used to monitor product temperatures in transit during shipping.
At Reser’s, we’re evaluating the use of a variety of new antimicrobials in our products, many of which are natural or organic. This permits us to produce products that are natural and free from artificial preservatives, while retaining good food safety characteristics.
Every Reser’s manufacturing plant receives at least one detailed third party audit each year. The audits, which typically take two full days, evaluate the physical facility and the quality systems. Reser’s plants routinely score in the ‘Excellent’ category.
